DU Men's Tennis Dominates Omaha 7-0

OMAHA, NEB. – The No. 52 ranked University of Denver men’s tennis team posted six singles wins and three doubles wins as it easily defeated Omaha 7-0 in its first conference competition of the season at the Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center, Sunday in Omaha, Neb.

Denver is 4-2 overall following the win and 1-0 in Summit League action, while Omaha drops to 1-1 and 0-1 in conference play.

DU had momentum on its side early in the competition, sweeping all three doubles matches. The No. 1 duo of Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.) and Diogo Rocha (Lisbon Portugal) defeated Eric McKnight and Adam Dockery 8-3. Both the No. 2 and No. 3 Pioneers doubles teams shut out their opponents.  Denver tandem Alex Gasson (Alton, U.K.) and Yannik James (St. Georges, Granada) beat Erik Anderson and Nate Greteman 8-0 and Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) and Eric Marbach (Naperville, Ill.) posted a 8-0 win over James McManus and Lukas Vanzura.

In singles, Denver won six of six matches in straight sets. No. 86 ranked Craig, who played in the No. 1 spot, claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over McKnight. In the No. 3 spot, Rocha was victorious against James McManus 6-1, 6-0.

Playing in the No. 2 and No. 6 spots were Gasson and Marbach, both of whom did not allow a point scored against them. Gasson tallied a 6-0, 6-0 win against Adam Dockery, while Marbach beat Vanzura 6-0, 6-0.

James and Aidan Talcott (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) posted the final Denver wins of the day. James was successful against Anderson 6-1, 6-2 and Talcott defeated Greteman 6-1, 6-0.

The Pioneers head back into action on Friday, Feb. 14 when they host Utah at 5 p.m., MT at CAC Monaco.
