Denver Men's Tennis Blanks South Dakota State

DENVER - The University of Denver men’s tennis team defeated South Dakota State 7-0 Friday at Gates Tennis Center in Denver.

"It’s always nice to get a conference victory, especially at home,” assistant men’s tennis coach Jeremy Feldman said. “I feel like the guys came out prepared after a good week of practice and it showed right from the get go."

Denver improves to 8-10 overall and 3-0 in conference play following the win, while South Dakota State falls to 15-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

The Pioneers took the doubles point in two matches. In the No. 2 spot, Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal) and Fabio Biasion (Velbert, Germany) easily netted an 8-0 win over Mateus Moreira and Gary Notkin. Clinching the doubles point for Denver was No. 3 team Eric Marbach (Naperville, Ill.) and Yannik James (St. Georges, Grenada) who beat Henrique Pereira and Lucas Pereira 8-3.

Denver took singles in straight sets in four of six matches. First Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.) defeated Boglic 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot, then Rocha beat Lawley 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. Aidan Talcott (Seacliff, N.Y.) took the third singles win of the day, posting a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Moreira in the No. 5 spot.

Alex Gasson (Alton, U.K.), Alex Clinkenbeard and James collected the last three singles victories. Gasson netted a 7-5, 6-1 against Lovro Curcija in the No. 3 spot, Clinkenbeard bettered Henrique Pereira 2-6, 7-5, 11-9 in the No. 4 spot and James defeated Notkin 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in the No. 6 spot.

Denver men’s tennis plays its second home conference match this weekend against IUPUI at 12 p.m., MT, on Saturday at Gates Tennis Center.
