DENVER - The University of Denver men’s tennis team defeated IUPUI 4-0 on Saturday in its second conference match of the weekend at Gates Tennis Center in Denver.
"It was another good effort,” head men’s tennis coach Danny Westerman said. “Doubles was great. I thought No. 3 doubles brought a great deal of energy. Marbach and James got all over their opponents right away. And I think it set the tone for the doubles point."
Denver improves to 9-10 overall and 4-0 in conference play following the win, while IUPUI falls to 5-17 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
In doubles, the No. 2 team of Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal) and Fabio Biasion (Velbert, Germany) claimed the first win defeating Jacob Bradley and Thomas Gans 8-3. Yannik James (St. Georges, Grenada) and Eric Marbach (Naperville, Ill.) clinched the doubles point after beating Jason Jaruvang and Akshay Verma 8-4 in the No. 3 spot.
Denver took singles in the No. 2, 5 and 6 spots. First James netted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Manuel Laboy in the No. 6 spot. Then Rocha bettered Alex Toliver 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot and Aidan Talcott (Seacliff, N.Y.) was victorious against Verma 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot.
