Denver Men's Tennis Wins Final Regular Season Match

DENVER - The University of Denver men’s tennis team defeated Fort Wayne 6-1 on Friday in its final regular conference match at Gates Tennis Center in Denver.
"Doubles was really competitive,” head men’s tennis coach Danny Westerman said. “In singles, there were no let downs. We got up quickly on several courts. And I think that got us through to four really quickly.”
Denver improves to 10-10 overall and 5-0 in conference play following the win, while Fort Wayne falls to 17-8 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
The No. 67 ranked doubles team of Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.) and Alex Gasson (Alton, U.K.) got things started off right, defeating Daniel Kang and Andres Cobos 8-4 in the No. 1 spot. Clinching the point for the Pioneers was No. 3 tandem Eric Marbach (Naperville, Ill.) and Yannik James (St. Georges, Grenada). The pair netted a 8-4 win over Connor Andrews and Karl Wangensten-Oye.
In singles, Denver took the No. 2, 4 and 6 spots in straight sets. Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal) first posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Jonathan Raa in the No. 2 spot. Then Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) bettered Gerard Guell 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 4 spot and Aidan Talcott (Seacliff, N.Y.) beat Wangensten-Oye 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot.
Claiming the last two singles wins of the day were Gasson and No. 106 ranked Craig who both battled through three sets. First Gasson came out on top against Cobos 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot, and then Craig defeated Kang 6-3, 6-7, 10-3 in the No. 1 spot.
Both of Denver’s tennis teams will host The Summit League Championships April 25-27. Going in as the No. 1 seed, DU men’s Tennis will play its first match on Saturday at 2 p.m., MT. All matches will take place at Gates Tennis Center in Denver. Fans are encouraged to come out and support.
