CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Alumna Tonje Daffinrud (Tonsberg, Norway) and senior Rachael Watton (Edinburgh, Scotland) of the University of Denver women's golf team were named to the 2013-14 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, Executive Director Roger M. Yaffe announced.
"We are so proud of both Tonje's and Rachael's commitment to academics, as well as golf, again this year," DU head coach Lindsay Kuhle said. "I am very proud of their hard work in the classroom and commitment to academics."
This is the fourth time Daffinrud has earned this distinction while Watton added her third in as many years.
A WGCA First Team All-American, Daffinrud capped off a solid career with the Pioneers in May upon averaging a team-best score of 72.44 for the 2013-14 school year, a season that was highlighted by a win at The Summit League Championships in which she shot a three-over 219.
Daffinrud went on to finish tied for 10th individually at the 2014 NCAA Championship in Tulsa, Okla., where she shot a three-over 283, including a three-under 67 and two-under 68 in the first and fourth rounds, respectively.
Watton had her best performance of the season at the Sept. 23-25 Golfweek Conference Challenge in Edwards, Colo., where she ended the tournament with a 10-over 226 for a share of 12th place.
A total of 664 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III were included among the honorees by the WGCA. To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
