Denver's complete Summit League schedule
Summit League Composite Schedule
DENVER - The University of Denver women's basketball team opens its second season in The Summit League on Jan. 2 on the road in Brookings, S.D., when they take on last year's regular season champions, the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State. The Pioneers first home league game is against Oral Roberts on Sunday, January 4 at Magness Arena. DU wraps up the nine week league schedule on Feb. 28 in Omaha against the UNO Mavericks. Denver is under the direction of third-year head coach Kerry Cremeans.
Denver returns a team that advanced to the championship game in The Summit League Tournament a season ago, missing a NCAA tournament berth by just one win. Denver was 5-9 in Summit League regular season play in 2013-14, including a 5-2 home record at Magness Arena.
The Pioneers return with two Honorable Mention All-Summit League players in junior point guard Paige Bradley (The Woodlands, Tex.) and senior forward Theresa Wirth (Mesa, Ariz.). Wirth averaged 11.9 points per game, 6.9 rebounds per game and shot 60% from the field in Summit League action last season. Bradley led last year's team in assists at 5.1 per game, while scoring 11.7 points and collecting 4.4 rebounds per game during Summit League games. Bradley was also named to The Summit League All-Tournament Team last season.
Wirth is joined by fellow seniors Morgan Van Riper-Rose (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Jordan Johnston (Waterloo, Iowa). Van Riper-Rose put in 8.9 points and 2.3 assists per game in league play. Johnston came off the bench for the Pioneers last season to average 5.1 points per game in Summit League action.
With the addition of Oral Roberts University to The Summit League this season, the league schedule now consists of 16 games, up from 14 games in 2013-14. ORU returns as a member of the Summit League, having spent 1997-2012 in The Summit League (formerly Mid-Continent Conference). The Golden Eagles were in the Southland Conference last season.
The 2015 Summit League Tournament is scheduled for March 7-10 at the new Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. The top eight teams will qualify for the tournament, with the winner earning The Summit League's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
