Sept. 16, 2014 U.S. Air Force Academy - The Pioneers claimed another sweet victory by conquering their opponent, the Air Force Falcons, in all three sets (30-28, 25-16, 25-10) at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado. This brings Denver's season record to 8-3.
Denver and Air Force rallied to thirty in the first set, giving the Pioneers some serious competition. As fans have seen in prior games, DU is no stranger to pressure and was able to come back several times throughout the match and ultimately win it.
"Air Force is a very good team that plays a disciplined game. They have some great athletes and it took a little while for us - namely our blockers - to adjust to [the Falcon's] playing in the first set," head coach Jesse Mahoney commented.
He went on to explain that, "Once we did, we were able to make some good plays and served extremely well. This gave us a spark for the next couple of sets."
Along with 41 total kills at a .317 percentage rate, their serve-pass game was the best it has been all year. Stat leaders for this game include Moni Corrujedo with eleven kills, Bailey Karst with 32 assists, Cassie Baird with six blocks and Kate Acker who had 22 digs.
The Pioneers will take it easy the next couple of days in order to prepare for their Denver Invitational this weekend, in which they will host San Francisco, Nevada, and the University of Texas at El Paso.
