Laramie- Pioneers dual meet with Wyoming today was a hard fought battle in the pool. Both the Men and Women faced a tough opponent in Wyoming. The number 23 ranked women beat the Cowgirls 152-148 in a tightly contested matchup. The men fell to the Cowboys 176-124. " Our women really battled hard today for their win," said Coach Brian Schrader "Wyoming really challenged us in every event."
A few athletes stood out to the coaches today "Maddie Myers was outstanding today with her three wins, and Amanda Sanders is racing and training so well right now. Bridgette McNally had a tough order of events today and responded well to the challenge. Sam Corea was her usual outstanding self on relays and in the fly and Johanna Roas gets better every time she races. Zoe Huddleston was outstanding racing today, aggressive, and great as we needed people to respond to a challenge"
Despite the loss, there were highlights found by Schrader "Our men were led again by Dylan Bunch. His wins in the 1000 and 500 were solid swims and we have come to depend on him and he delivers. Ray Bornman and Ross Edfort picked up key wins. Anton Loncar also picked up a win, he is another that gets better every race. Willy Van Dehy quietly had some great freestyle splits on relays and picked up two critical seconds."
When asked about the loss to a tough Wyoming squad Coach said " We faced a tough aggressive Wyoming team and we didn't match it. We will need to be better if we want to pick up a team victory next week.
The Pioneers head to Utah next Friday and Saturday where they will have back to back meets against Utah and BYU.
