Hogan Promoted to Associate Head Coach

Jan. 21, 2015

DENVER - University of Denver volleyball assistant and U.S. Women's Junior National Team head coach Tom Hogan has been promoted to associate head coach, third year DU head man Jesse Mahoney announced on Wednesday.

"This is a well-deserved promotion for a high-quality coach in our department," Associate Vice Chancellor for Sport Supervision and Internal Operations Ron Grahame said. "Tom, head coach Jesse Mahoney and assistant coach Katelin Batten all bring tremendous credibility and experience to our program."

Hogan was named the head coach of the 2014 U.S. Women's Junior National Team (WJNT) in April ahead of the NORCECA Women's U-20 Continental Championship in July. Hogan and the United States earned Gold at the Championships last summer.

"Tom has taken on a vital role in the growth and success of our program in the past three years," Mahoney said. "As both a trainer and recruiter, Tom has been integral in moving this program forward, and I am excited that he is being rewarded for his expertise and efforts."

The 2002 Miami (Ohio) grad also served as head coach of the U.S. Girls' Select A1 and A2 Volleyball Programs in 2011. Hogan's USA Select National Team earned a Silver Medal at the 2013 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships and a Bronze Medal in 2012.

"I'm honored to be given the associate head coach title," Hogan said. "The belief Peg, Ron and Jesse have shown in me is inspiring and something I'm very grateful for. I believe in this program, and I'm very fortunate to be a part of the Denver family."

Hogan joined the DU staff with Mahoney in 2012 after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Colorado. Prior to his coaching stint with the Buffs, Hogan was a member of the USA Women's Volleyball National Team coaching staff for four years. Hogan was an instrumental member of the staff that lead the U.S. to a Silver Medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The three-year assistant also served as the head coach for Team USA at the 2008 World Pan American Cup in Mexico.

In his assistant coaching role at DU, Hogan has played a vital role on a staff that has led Denver to a record of 61-33 (including 27-7 last season), and is coming fresh off the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
