Oct. 24, 2015 Lawrence, Kan. - The University of Denver men's and women's swimming team showed a solid performance on the first day of their double dual meet against the University of Kansas and Missouri State University.
Denver's relay team consisting of Dylan Bunch, Ray Bornman, Luke Williams and Kyle Robrock finished first in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:43.18, breaking the previous pool record of 6:43.41 that has been upheld at the Robinson Natatorium since 1984.
The DU women's 200-yard medley relay, made up of Morgan McCormick, Amanda Sanders, Johanna Roas and Zoe Huddleston placed first with a time of 1:45.56. The men's team also finished first in the same relay after Robrock, Bornman, Tim Cottam and Andrew Torres raced to a time of 1:32.44.
Other first place finishes on the day included Dylan Bunch in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:24.53), Roas (1:50.48) and Bornman (1:39.12) in the 200-yard freestyle, Anton Loncar in the 100 backstroke (50.05), Sanders (1:04.55) and Cottam (57.30) in the 100-yard breaststroke and Torres in the 200-yard butterfly (1:50.81). Huddleston (23.86) and Robrock (20,67) also won their individual 50-yard freestyle events.
Junior Larissa Grammer placed third in the one meter diving event with a final score of 226.60. Divers Ryan Reed and Jackson Martin each took part in the three meter diving event, as Reed finished with a final score of 242.00 and Martin recorded a final score of 192.00.
The dual meet continues today as the DU women lead Kansas 93-91 and also lead Missouri State 141-41, while the men's teams hold a 131-49 advantage over Missouri State.
