Omaha 0-1 Denver (Welch 63') | 2015 Schedule
OMAHA - Sophomore Riley Welch (Littleton, Colo.) scored the lone goal of the match in the 63rd minute to send the University of Denver women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Omaha on Friday night at Caniglia Field. The goal is the second of Welch's career. Junior Cassidy Rey (Arcadia, Calif.) kept her fourth clean sheet of the season, making four saves for Denver.
With Friday night's win, Denver moved into a tie for fourth with South Dakota in the Summit League standings. USD holds the tiebreaker between the two teams. Denver heads to Oral Roberts Sunday at 12 p.m. MT. IPFW and South Dakota kickoff two hours earlier in Indiana.
"This team continues to be so resilient after playing well early in the season but not getting the desired results," head coach Jeff Hooker said. "Once again we were without another mainstay, Brooke [Boothe] today, who has played nearly every minute for us, but did not today. We changed some roles around, and everyone stepped up to help us keep the shutout on the road this evening. We need to focus tomorrow on recovering and preparing for another important match on Sunday."
Welch's 63rd minute breakthrough came off the first career helper from freshman Leah Swander (Grand Junction, Colo.). The DU sophomore received Swander's cross and skipped her 18-yard strike into the left side netting.
Denver outshot Omaha 9-8 on Friday night en route to its fourth-consecutive victory.
UP NEXT: The Pioneers will close the 2015 regular season with a trip to Oral Roberts on Sunday at 12 p.m. MT.
