DENVER
- A late third-quarter run by Colorado State turned out to be the difference in a 74-46 loss on Sunday for the University of Denver women's basketball team. The game-changing run was part of a 26-point quarter for the Rams, who upped their winning streak to seven with the victory.

The Pioneers were able to hang tough in the opening half due to their defense, holding CSU to 30 points, none of which came from the 3-point line. Colorado State found its grove though in the second half, doubling up DU 44-22, which included knocking down a season-high 10 3s.

Junior Jacqlyn Poss (Shoreview, Minn.) led the Pioneers with a team-high 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting.

Both Jesse Spittel (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and Paige Bradley (The Woodlands, Texas) also recorded double digits in scoring, Spittel with 11 and Bradley with 10.

Colorado State, who entered the game ranked sixth in the NCAA in points allowed, displayed its defensive capabilities early, getting out to a 14-7 lead in the first quarter after a jumper by Alana Arias, her fourth point in the game.

The Pioneers, however, responded with a 9-2 run late in the first to tie things up at 16-16 after Tori Bryant (Brea, Calif.) nailed two free throws to close out the first 10 minutes of action at Magness Arena.

In the second, both teams continued to trade baskets, with neither team getting ahead by more than four points through the first seven minutes. DU was able to keep it close with its defense - which gave the Rams fits for long stretches in the first half.

CSU was able to hold on in the closing moments, drilling a running deep 2-pointer at the buzzer to take a six-point lead into the break at 30-24.

The key stat of the first half was points in the paint, with Colorado State outscoring Denver 20-6 in the half.

Two quick buckets to start the third brought the Pioneers within three at 32-29. DU really moved the ball well in the early minutes, getting great looks for Bradley and Poss, who converted their scoring chances.

A 12-2 run gave the Rams the separation they needed the rest of the way, giving them a 44-31 lead that was capped off by a made 3 from Stine Austgulen.

DU wasn't able to contain the CSU run, allowing for Colorado State to keep its hot streak going from beyond the arc, extending its lead to 19 at the end of the third.

The Rams continued its good shooting all through the fourth quarter en route to racking up the win.
