DENVER - The University of Denver Swimming and Diving team has been nationally ranked after completing competition at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, IA this past weekend. The men's team is ranked 14th overall, while the women's team is ranked 25th.
The team was also ranked in the collegeswimming.com mid-major poll as the men's team was ranked first overall and the women's team came in second. Denver finished the weekend by breaking 13 school records in the course of three days.
Junior Amanda Sanders (Superior, Colo.) broke a school record during the preliminary round of the 100 breaststroke event with a time of 1:00.65 on Saturday, which also made NCAA B standards. Redshirt junior Kyle Robrock (Savage, Minn.) broke a school record in the preliminary round of the 100 fly with a time of 47.15, which he broke again in the finals.
Robrock broke his second school record of the day in the 100 backstroke event after beating all other swimmers with a time of 46.84. Sophomore Maddie Myers (Arvada, Colo.) set a school record of her own after winning the 400 IM with a time of 4:11.34, while also making NCAA B Standards.
The men's 200 medley team of Robrock, Tim Cottam (Sydney, Australia), Patrick Guillory (Meadows Place, Texas) and Ray Bornman (Mackay, Queensland) broke another school record in their second place finish with a time of 1:26.89.
Both the men's and women's teams won the 800 freestyle relay event on Saturday as the men's team of Robrock, Bornman,Scott Bergstrom (White Salmon, Wash.) and Luke Williams (Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished with a time of 6:30.01, while the women's team of Myers, Alexandra Malazdrewicz (Wheat Ridge, Colo.), Lauren Moden (Parker, Colo.) and Zoe Huddleston (Rothschild, Wis.) ended with a time of 7:19.14.
The 400 yard free relay teams finished up the meet on Sunday with strong performances highlighted by the men's team of Bornman, Robrock, Guillory and Luke Williams (Scottsdale, Ariz.) smashing the school record with a time of 2:54.56. The women's relay team of Alexandra Malazdrewicz (Wheat Ridge, Colo.), Lauren Moden (Parker, Colo.), Morgan Wice-Roslin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Zoe Huddleston (Rothschild, Wis.) finished second overall in their race with a time of 3:21.68.
The University of Denver swim team will have a few weeks off for their winter break before returning to action on Jan. 9 when both the men's and women's teams host Wyoming at El Pomar Natatorium.
