DENVER
- A late run in the fourth quarter proved too much for the University of Denver women's basketball team on Wednesday afternoon, losing 75-64 to Wyoming on Hoops & Education Day at Magness Arena. 19 elementary schools in the area were in attendance for the game, providing lots of energy throughout the course of the game.

Jacqlyn Poss (Shoreview, Minn.) had her best day as a Pioneer, scoring a career-best 20 points in the loss, which included going 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Poss also added three assists and three rebounds.

Paige Bradley (The Woodlands, Texas) just barely missed out on a double-double with 12 points and nine assists in 38 minutes of action. Bradley's nine assists marked a new season high for the senior, and her fourth game this year with five-or-more assists.

The Pioneers were able to find several scoring options, with five players scoring in double figures, the first time in nearly a year they have had that kind of scoring distribution on the offensive end.

Denver native Marquelle Dent led the way for the Cowgirls, dropping in a game-high 21. Dent, the Mountain West's second-leading assister, also handed out 10 assists to get her first double-double of the year.

Neither team pulled away early, with Wyoming holding a one-point advantage at the first media timeout in the opening quarter. Denver was able to get itself going with good looks in the paint.

The duo of Bradley and Samantha Romanowski (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) delivered on the offensive end, combining to score 10 of the Pioneers' 13 first-quarter points. DU's defense allowed it to build a four-point lead at the end of one, 13-9.

The teams continued to trade buckets in the start of the second. The Cowgirls were able to build their lead at 22-18 after a layup by Jordan Kelley, her seventh point of the half.

Poss, though, would rally Denver, scoring the final seven points of the half to make it a 27-27 game going into the break.

The Pioneers' defense played a key role in the rally in the second quarter, holding Wyoming to 35.7 percent shooting (10-for-28) in the first half.

The Cowgirls settled for a lot of 3-pointers in the opening 20 minutes, jacking 16 3s in all.

A 9-3 run to start the third gave Wyoming a 36-30 lead midway through the third. The Cowgirls opened up hot, knocking down three of their first four shots in of the half.

A strong finish to end the quarter gave Wyoming a nine-point edge going into the fourth at 45-36. DU couldn't sustain the solid shooting it displayed in the first half, making just 3 out of 13 attempts (23.1 percent) in the quarter.

A very fast-paced fourth helped Denver cut the Cowgirls' lead to seven after a 3 by Poss, giving her 18 on the afternoon, a new career high. The Shoreview, Minn. native's 3 was her fourth made 3-pointer of the game.

The Cowgirls were able to make their move late on a made 3-pointer by Marta Gomez, her second from beyond the arc, pushing their lead back to double digits at 69-58 with a little over a minute remaining in the game.

Denver was forced to foul the rest of the way, allowing for Wyoming to secure the victory at the foul line.
