DENVER - The No. 64 University of Denver men's tennis team (4-4) defeated the BYU Cougars (7-4) on Friday afternoon, 4-1.

Denver got out in front early when junior Henry Craig and freshman Jesse Ruder-Hook earned their third doubles victory of the season over Sullivan/Bell, 6-3. The duo of junior David Fox and sophomore Alex Gasson clinched the doubles point for the Pioneers with a, 6-3 win over the pairing of Goryachkov/Sargent.

"This was a great team win tonight for our guys," said Head Coach Danny Westerman. "BYU has a great home atmosphere and it is a very tough place to pick up a road win."

Sophomore Yannik James would push the score to, 2-0 when he earned his sixth singles win of the year, defeating David Ball, 6-4, 6-2. The score would then go to, 3-0 courtesy of the Craig's second singles win of the year on court one. He would defeat Francis Sargeant, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. The Pioneers would clinch the match when sophomore Diogo Rocha would drop Shane Monroe, 7-5, 7-5.

"We did a lot of the little things right tonight that we have not done the last couple of weeks," said Westerman. "We are looking forward to another tough match tomorrow versus Utah."
