NEW YORK - [1/1] University of Denver men's lacrosse freshman FOGO Trevor Baptiste (Denville, N.J.) has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
In the first game of his collegiate career, Baptiste went 25-of-34 on faceoffs, picking up 14 ground balls off his faceoff wins. The freshman also tallied his first career goal, finishing one of his four shot attempts directly off a second quarter faceoff win.
The 25 faceoff wins for the freshman put Baptiste one win shy of the school record set by Ben Wahler at Ohio State on April 19, 2008 (26 wins).
Sophomore Connor Cannizzaro (Cazenovia, N.Y.) was also named to the weekly honor roll for his offensive performance, tallying eight points on three goals and five assists in his first game with the Crimson and Gold.
Denver remained No. 1 in all three major polls, as the first regular season rankings were also released on Monday.
Marquette defenseman B.J. Grill was named the Defensive Player of the Week, leading the Golden Eagles to a pair of nonconference wins over ranked opponents.
