NEW YORK - [1/1] University of Denver men's lacrosse senior goalie Ryan LaPlante (Fort Collins, Colo.) has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

Starting in goal for both of the Pioneers victories this weekend, LaPlante averaged 12.0 saves per game and a 5.72 goals against average. In the 10-5 win against Furman in the Frontier Airlines Faceoff Classic, LaPlante set a new career-high with 19 saves, including 12 in the first half. His save total against Furman was the second-most saves made in a single game in program history.

For the second week in a row, sophomore Connor Cannizzaro (Cazenovia, N.Y.) was also named to the weekly honor roll for his offensive performance, tallying 12 points in two games this weekend, including eight against Air Force on Saturday. Cannizzaro also had his first career sock trick in that game, and became the first Pioneer with eight points in two games in the same season.

Denver remained No. 1 in all three major polls, as the second regular season rankings were also released on Monday.

Marquette attacker Jordan Greenfield was named the conference's offensive player of the week on Monday.

Denver will open a stretch against back-to-back top-5 opponents when the Pioneers head to Chapel Hill to take on [4/4] North Carolina on Friday at 4 p.m. ET/2 p.m. MT. Friday's clash can be seen on ESPNU. DU will then return home to take on [2/3] Notre Dame at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on March 7 at 1 p.m. MT.
