DENVER - University of Denver sophomore Petter Mikalsen (Stavenger, Norway) has been named the Summit League male golfer of the week for his performance in the recently completed Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, California.
The Pioneers finished third in the 24-team field and nearly pulled off an astounding comeback in the final round, shooting 12-under par. Mikalsen helped lead the charge with a final round score of 3-under. For the tournament, Mikalsen was 5-under par, good for third place. He was just one of four golfers to shoot par or better for all three rounds.
"We are proud of the way Petter works," said Denver head coach Erik Billinger. "These achievements are a direct result of his hard work."
Mikalsen is no stranger to earning Summit League golfing honors. He was the Summit League Golfer of the Month last September.
The Pioneers are gearing up for their next tournament, the Del Walker Intercollegiate in Long Beach, California on March 2nd.
Brenna Lervick of South Dakota was named the Summit League female golfer of the week.
