Denver Closes Out Regular Season At Omaha Saturday Afternoon

Scouting the Pioneers (8-21, 5-10 Summit): The Pioneers are currently in 7th place in The Summit League with a 5-10 league record. The Pioneers defeated Omaha, 60-53 on January 8 in Magness Arena.

In their previous matchup, three Pioneers scored in double figures with Paige Bradley (The Woodlands, Texas) leading the way with 19 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Jacqlyn Poss (Shoreview, Minn.) and Morgan Van Riper-Rose (Eden Prairie, Minn.) finished with 14 points each. Forward Alecia Espinoza (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) cleaned the glass for the Pioneers with 10 boards.

The Pioneers attack offensively primarily from the perimeter. Their trio of experienced guards carries the scoring load for DU. Denver averages seven 3-pointers a game and shoots 34 percent from downtown.

Scouting the Mavericks (9-18, 4-11 Summit): Through 27 games, sophomore forward Mikaela Shaw leads the Mavericks in scoring (15.2 ppg) and rebounding (8.6 rpg). Senior Tajihe Kelly is the stopper defensively for Omaha, she averages 3.2 blocks per game and is Omaha's all-time leader in blocks

The Mavs are allowing their opponents to score 66 points a game, while averaging 60 points on 40 percent shooting. Omaha also has allowed their opponents to hit an average of six 3-pointers a game. On average, the Mavericks are outrebounded by their opponents 40-36. Coming into the game, Omaha has won three out of their last five games.

LEAVING A LEGACY: This season marks the last for three Denver seniors, who were honored before the Pioneers game against IPFW on Saturday, Feb. 14. Jordan Johnston, Morgan Van Riper-Rose, and Theresa Wirth have had a lasting impact on the Denver women's basketball program. All three will leave their names in the record books.

Wednesday, Feb. 11 against SDSU was the 100th career start for Van Riper-Rose who is currently tied for second all-time in Pioneer program history with 227 3-pointers. She also sits in 10th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,299 points and sits atop of the free throw percentage list, hitting 84 percent of her free throws in her career.

Johnston is in seventh on the 3-point field goals made list with 123 makes and is a 75 percent free throw shooter for her career. Johnston is currently in second in program history in games played with 122. She's recorded 819 points, 296 rebounds and 111 assists in her 2,445 minutes played as a Pioneer.

Wirth is tied for 10th in career field goal percentage with an average of 51 percent. In her 82 games she has scored 538 points and pulled in 344 rebounds.
