Feb. 27, 2015 WICHITA, KAN.- The No. 40 University of Denver men's tennis team (6-5) fell to the Wichita State Shockers (8-3) Friday, 6-1.
The Pioneers and Shockers battled early for the doubles point. Denver took the first match on court two when the pairing of sophomores Diogo Rocha and Yannik James dropped Ilja Cuic and Guillermo de Vilchez, 6-2. Wichita State would battle back and take the other two courts to earn the point.
Denver could not get off the ground from there as the Shockers would win courts one, three, four, five, and six. Rocha would notch the lone point for Denver as he earned his first singles win as a ranked player this season. He defeated Tomislav Gregurovic, 7-6, 7-5.
"Today is a very disappointing loss," said Head Coach Danny Westerman. "We did not take care of the small, but very important details like we have the last few weeks."
The Pioneers will move on to face their first Summit League opponent Oral Roberts Saturday February 28, at 10:00 a.m. MT.
