Feb. 3, 2015 DENVER - Four University of Denver male alpine skiers will be participating in the World Championships in Beaver Creek, Colorado later this month. Espen Lysdahl, coming off RMISA skier of the week honors, will represent Norway. Erik Read and Trevor Philp will both represent Canada and Sebastian Brigovic will ski for Croatia.
"I never considered that it might be tougher to make DU's NCAA Championship team than it would be to make the World Championships for their home country, but such is the 2015 campaign," said Denver head coach Andy LeRoy. "Congrats to those four men for making us dream bigger!"
LeRoy can only take three alpine skiers to the NCAA championships.
Meanwhile, The University of Denver ski team is ranked second nationally in the latest poll released by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association.
The Pioneers, the preseason number one, received 92 points, trailing only Colorado in the poll by 15 points. Utah was third followed by Vermont. Dartmouth and New Mexico were tied for fifth.
DU was named the country's top alpine team, garnering three of the six first place votes with CU, New Mexico and Vermont grabbing the other three first place votes.
Denver's Nordic team was voted fifth in the country with Colorado holding the number one spot.
The next coaches poll will be released prior to the regional championships later this month. There will also be a poll released before the NCAA Championships in Lake Placid, N.Y. which start on March 11th.
