McGee Tied for No. 1 on Floor as Denver is Ranked No. 18

March 9, 2015

DENVER - The University of Denver's Nina McGee (Cincinnati, Ohio) is tied for No. 1 in the nation on floor in this week's GymInfo Poll. She is tied with LSU's Lloimincia Hall and Florida's Kytra Hunter, each with an RQS of 9.945.

McGee's No. 1 ranking is the first for a Pioneer in the RQS rankings. Jessica Lopez was the last DU gymnast to be ranked No. 1, doing so on beam on January 19, 2009, when the rankings were determined by total season average. Lopez's highest RQS ranking was No. 2, last coming on floor on April 7, 2008.

Denver is ranked No. 18 overall, down one spot from last week, with an RQS of 196.100 following its 196.925 win over Ohio State and Air Force on Senior Night in Magness Arena. The Pioneers are also ranked inside the top 25 on three events: No. 9 on floor (49.290), No. 11 on vault (49.265) and No. 25 on beam (48.810).

McGee also comes in at No. 25 in the individual all-around rankings (39.260) after posting a career-high 39.625 to win the title at Saturday's meet. Her score ties the third-highest in program history, last recorded by Jessica Lopez on March 9, 2009. Sophomore Rachel Fielitz (Walden, N.Y.) enters the top 25 for the first time this week on vault in a tie at No. 23 (9.895).

Denver is second overall in the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference behind first-place Boise State. DU is first in the conference on vault and floor. McGee is first in the conference on floor, second in all-around and third on vault. Fielitz is second on vault, and junior Maggie Laughlin (Scottsdale, Ariz.) is tied for second on floor.

DU competes twice on the road this week, first visiting Colorado Springs, Colo., for a tri-meet against Air Force and Alaska-Anchorage on Monday night. The Pioneers will also travel to Tucson, Ariz., on Saturday to compete against No. 17 Arizona.
