FORT WORTH, Texas -- Nina McGee (Cincinnati, Ohio) of the University of Denver women's gymnastics team tied for second on floor during the individual event finals at the NCAA National Championships.

McGee scored a 9.950 during Sunday's competition, earning a standing ovation from the arena. She finished behind Florida's Kytra Hunter (9.9625) and tied with Oklahoma's Brenna Dowell. Her second-place finish ties the highest for a Denver gymnast at the Division I NCAA Championships, matching Karen Beer's runner-up finish on bars in 1983.

"We're so excited for Nina," head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart said. "She has strong tumbling and gymnastics, but it was her personality that stole the show.

"I think she was very calm and confident all weekend, and that calm confidence came from the fact that she knew she was very prepared."

To qualify to event finals, McGee scored a 9.925 on floor on Friday, tying for second in Semifinal II. She is Denver's second event finalist in three years and first on floor since 2007. McGee was the only competitor at event finals not from one of the top 12 qualifying teams.

At Friday's semifinals, McGee earned NCAA All-American honors on floor (first team) and in the all-around (second team). She finished 11th overall in the all-around. She also earned regular season All-American honors on floor (first team) and in the all-around (second team).

McGee will return in 2016 for a fifth year of NCAA eligibility.

"We're excited that Nina's coming back next year and hope to build on this--not just for Nina but for the entire team," said Kutcher-Rinehart, looking ahead to the 2016 season.

ESPNU will broadcast the event finals competition--including McGee's floor routine--on April 29 at 7 p.m. MT.
