June 11, 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-America Release
DENVER -- University of Denver senior men's lacrosse midfielder Erik Adamson (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) and senior hockey winger Larkin Jacobson (Sioux City, Iowa) were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First and Third Teams, respectively, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday. Â
Adamson became Denver's 17th first team CoSIDA Academic All-American on Thursday. The DU senior was also named a USILA Scholar All-American prior to his third-consecutive trip to Championship Weekend. Adamson helped lead the Pioneers to the first National Championship by a program west of Chapel Hill, N.C., finishing third on the team in goals with 35.Â
In his career, Adamson finished fifth in DU history in points (146), fourth in goals (111), sixth in shots attempted (267), fourth in shots on goal (184), third in man-up goals (20) and second in game-winning goals (7).Â
Adamson also helped raise over $2,500 individually and $32,000 collectively for breast cancer research. He participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, 60-mile Breast Cancer Walk in San Diego. He has also contributed organized and packed canned food to ship to impoverished areas as a volunteer with 9News. He has assisted with the set-up of a 5K run to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation. In addition, Adamson has taught inner city kids the sport of lacrosse to keep them safe and off the streets. He has managed and mentored hundreds of kids from the ages of 8 to 18 years old in lacrosse and has learned how to organize and motivate a team focused on achieving a common goal.Â
Jacobson, also a finance major, compiled a near perfect 3.98 GPA over the course of his academic career. On the ice, Jacobson helped the Pioneers to the NCAA Quarterfinals and 24 wins this past season. He tied for the team lead in game-winning goals with four in the campaign.Â
Away from the classroom and rink, Jacobson has volunteered with the Special Olympics and the Colorado Children's Hospital. He has been recognized for his scholastic prowess in all four of his seasons at DU, capturing NCHC Academic All-Conference honors this/last year as well as DU Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in 2011-12 and again in 2012-13. He is one of only two members of this year's NCHC Scholar-Athlete Team to have recorded a GPA above 3.9.Â
