DENVER - Denver volleyball fell to IUPUI (22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 17-25, 13-15) Saturday in Indianapolis. The Pioneers stand at 13-4 on the season and 1-1 in the Summit League.
Sarah Schmid (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led DU with 14 kills and .440 hitting percentage in the match. Moni Corrujedo (El Paso, Texas) added in 12 kills, and Kayla Principato (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) recorded 11 kills in the match.
The Pioneers began the match well, hitting at least .239 in each of the first three sets. In the first set, Schmid tallied five kills on five attacks as well as a service ace. DU's offense was spread out in the second set, with six players recording more than one kill in the set. Corrujedo led Denver in the third set with five kills.
Denver continued its defensive success with 13 total blocks in the match. Two Pioneers recorded career highs in block assists with Schmid leading the team with 10 blocks and Principato earning seven in the match.
Both DU setters performed well. Monique Domme (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Piyusha Boteju (Euless, Texas) notched 26 and 23 assists, respectively. Libero Cassidy Rooke (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) led Denver with 18 digs, and four other Pioneers earned double-digit digs in the match.
Kaitlyn Hickey led IUPUI with 22 of the Jaguars' 78 kills. IUPUI hit .276 in the match and recorded 15 more assists and 12 more digs than Denver.
The Pioneers return home to Hamilton Gymnasium to face North Dakota State Tuesday, September 29 at 7 p.m. MT. Denver's first home Summit League match-up will be broadcast on Altitude 2.
