Jan. 12, 2016 DENVER - University of Denver gymnast Nina McGee (Cincinnati, Ohio) was named the Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for the first week of the season, the conference announced Tuesday. McGee scored her first career perfect 10.0 on floor during Saturday's season opener on her way to winning the all-around title, as well as the bars and floor titles.
McGee's all-around tally of 39.250 was tied for the highest in the conference last week, and her perfect score on floor is the only 10.0 in the nation so far this season. She is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation on floor, tied for No. 4 on bars and tied for No. 13 in the all-around.
Tuesday's award is McGee's sixth conference Gymnast of the Week honor in her career after winning it five times with the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference-including in three consecutive weeks to open the 2015 season.
This is Denver's first season as an affiliate member of the Big 12 Conference.
DU travels to the University of Iowa for the team's next meet on Monday, January 18, at 1 p.m. MT. The Pioneers return home Saturday, January 23, at 6 p.m. against Washington.
