TULSA, Okla. - A solid start couldn't be maintained on Saturday for the University of Denver women's basketball team, who lost 65-33 to Oral Roberts at the Mabee Center. The Golden Eagles picked up their sixth straight league win with the victory.
Paige Bradley (The Woodlands, Texas) led the Pioneers with a team-high 14 points. The senior was the only DU player in double figures on the afternoon.
Jordyn Alt (North Oaks, Minn.) pulled down nine rebounds in the loss.
ORU was led by a game-high 15 points from Kaylan Mayberry.
Oral Roberts opened the contest with a 9-6 lead going into the first media timeout. Bradley kept Denver close by scoring all six its points from the jump. The Pioneers closed strong though, allowing just one point in the final 5:53 to make it a tie game at 10-10 after the first quarter.
A big 12-0 run by the Golden Eagles gave them a nine-point lead in the second. DU struggled to respond with a cold-shooting performance from the floor, scoring only five points in the period, while ORU put up 17, putting Denver down 12 going into the half at 27-15.
The Pioneers' five points in the second were the first of a two-quarter stretch where they couldn't buy a basket on the offensive end.
Bradley carried the DU offense in the first half, scoring 11 of its 15 points in the first 20 minutes.
In the third, Oral Roberts pushed away for good, extending its lead to 25 after locking down Denver for a second straight quarter by a score of 17-4. The four points tied the season low on the year for points scored by the Pioneers in quarter.
DU turned in its best scoring quarter in the fourth, netting 14 points in the final 10 minutes, but it was too late as the Golden Eagles went on to get the victory.
