DENVER - The University of Denver Swimming and Diving team has been recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as one of the 547 swimming and diving teams to be named to the Scholar All-America list. The women's team earned a GPA of 3.57, while the men's team earned a 3.38. Both of these grade point averages rank in the Top 10 in the country against other Division I programs.
"This recognition is one of which we are especially proud," head coach Brian Schrader said. "We have some tremendous student-athletes and to be in the Top 10 in the country for both teams academically represents very well the mission here at the University of Denver -great students who want to be great athletes. I am so proud of our teams for their well done work in the classroom."
Five hundred and forty-seven swimming and diving teams representing 358 colleges and universities were named College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams. The awards are in recognition of teams' that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2015 Fall Semester. That is up 40 teams from the previous Fall Semester.
Over 70% of all Division I swimming and diving teams achieved GPA's of 3.00 or higher including 21 Women's and 19 Men's teams in the current CSCAA/TYR Top 25.
The Denver swim team will be back in action this weekend as they host Utah on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at El Pomar Natatorium. The men's team will then travel to Air Force on Saturday for a sprint race, beginning at 1:00 p.m. MT.
