DENVER - The University of Denver women's golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of play at the Greenville Regional Preview on Monday. The Pioneers closed out the day in 12th with play getting suspended due to darkness at Brooke Valley Country Club.
Par for the 6,133-yard course was 72
"We had a tough start today," head coach Lindsay Kuhle said. "I'm proud of this team for showing their mental toughness through the end of today's play. Camille finished 3-under the last five and Jess [Carty] 2-under the last three hole. With a solid round tomorrow to finish up the fall season, we can move up the leaderboard and finish on a high note.
"Playing on Bermuda grass on a course this is very difficult and one we've never seen before is challenging," Kuhle added. "Our team talks about how we're going to improve through challenges and new experiences and this course and tournament does just that. We are improving everyday and putting ourselves in uncomfortable positions that will increase our confidence and improve our play in the end."
Mariell Bruun was DU's top performer on the day, finishing tied for 20th after posting a 77 in the first round and at 4-over-par with three holes to go for the second round, bringing her total to 9-over.
Jessica Carty wrapped up day one tied for 37th at 12-over. The senior shook off a rough first 18 holes in which she fired an 81 to shoot 3-over through 16 in the afternoon round.
Camille Enright ended her first day of the tournament tied for 39th at 13-over. Enright - like Carty - bounced back from a tough first round to get back into things in round two.
Jessica Dreesbeimdieke tied for 52th at 15-over through 36 holes.
Sophie Newlove finished her day tied for 76th.
Sonya Knebel, competing as an individual, had a good opening day, sitting tied for 12th on the leaderboard after posting an opening-round 77, then followed by a 2-over through 15 holes in the afternoon.
The final portion of round two and the entire third round will be played tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. ET.
