DENVER - The University of Denver women's swimming team won 11 of 14 events en route to a 159-101 victory over Colorado State Saturday afternoon at El Pomar Natatorium.
"It was an overall team effort and it was great to see the women coming together and racing for team points in our win today," associate head coach Alicia Franklin said. "CSU handed us some good racing today and we accepted the challenge well. Morgan McCormick swam outstanding and I thought Karly Haraden came out racing in the 1000 Freestyle in a strong field and kept her intensity up through the entire race. I was impressed with Amanda Sanders, Heidi Bradley and Maddie Myers today as well with their two wins each. It was also fun to see Annelyse Tullier and Josie Valette move up in scoring in their events. This was a great overall win for our team today."
Junior Morgan McCormick (Golden, Colo.) broke the pool record and earned an NCAA B Standard in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.6, one of her three individual wins to go along with a relay win in the 200 medley relay.
Senior Amanda Sanders (Superior, Colo.) and juniors Heidi Bradley (Victoria, B.C.) and Maddie Myers (Arvada, Colo.) all finished with two individual event wins each for the Pioneers. Senior Johanna Roas (Munich, Germany) also chipped in a victory in the 100 free to round out Denver's winners on Saturday.
Sophomore All-American Bailey Andison (Smiths Falls, Ontario) joined McCormick, Roas and freshman Josie Valette (Boulder, Colo.) in the 200 yard medley victory to open up the afternoon.
Denver touched one and two in the 200 yard medley relay with Bradley, Sanders, Kylie Cronin (Marblehead, Mass.) and Morgan Wice-Roslin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finishing behind Denver's A-Relay by just under three seconds.
The Pioneers' three swimmers finished 2-4 in the 1000 free. Junior Karly Haraden (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), senior Clara Jenck (Phoenix, Ariz.) and senior Nicole Cassou (Castle Rock, Colo.) were the three swimmers in the event for the Pioneers, touching in 10:25.34, 10:35.53 and 10:37.44.
Behind Myers in the 200 free (1:53.45), Annelyse Tullier (Dallas, Texas) finished just 0.34 behind the DU victor and Valette finished fourth with a time of 1:55.70.
Roas earned a third place finish in the 100 back with a time of 56.56, nearly two seconds behind McCormick's first event win of the afternoon.
Sanders and Andison finished 1-2 in the 100 breast with times of 1:03.98 and 1:05.13.
Wice-Roslin earned her second, second place finish of the meet, this one an individual finish in the 50 free, clocking in at 24.18.
Tullier added another second place finish, this time in the 500 free, touching at 5:08.42, keeping pace just behind Myers.
