DENVER - Though Nola Basey made history on the evening, it was the defense that took center stage as the University of Denver volleyball team enacted revenge yet again, defeating Oral Roberts in straight sets, 25-18, 25-13 and 25-20.

The Pioneers (19-6, 11-2 SL) used 10 blocks and 48 digs in a complete team look to keep the Golden Eagles (14-13, 6-7 SL) to a .054 hitting percentage, only the sixth time in the 2016 campaign where Denver held its opponents to a sub-.100 mark.

The offense still had plenty of looks to choose from as Basey fired off eight kills in the match with no errors and a .471 mark to become the 14th member of DU's 1,000 kills club, joining her fellow outside hitter Moni Corrujedo on the list in the season.

This is only the third time Denver had two student-athletes join the 1,000 kills club in the same season, the first time occurring in 1993 when Jamie Jardan and Natalie Hall accomplished the feat, with the second coming in 2007 with Holly Benson and Kim Muller.

Corrujedo was active on both ends, posting six kills, four block assists and 11 digs on the evening, while Kayla Principato joined Basey up top with eight kills. Emma Willis made her presence felt on the front of the net, tallying seven kills and a .400 clip to go with six block assists.

Monique Domme and Piyusha Boteju were a mirror of one another as the setting tandem had 15 assists and three digs for both members.

Cassidy Rooke was a key component of the Pioneer defense, digging out 20 swings from ORU, while Ruth Okoye stepped up to the net and put back four total blocks, two solo and two assisted.

Laura Milos, one of the premier point scorers in the NCAA, was held just below her season average as she put up 14 kills to go with five digs and five blocks, three solo and two assisted, but was held without an ace for only the fourth time in the 2016 season.

Lucija Bojanjac drove ORU's offense, finishing with 23 assists, while Tori Roe took over back row duties with 11 digs.

Set One:

Both teams struggled to hit early on, but Denver wore down the visitors and finished with a .219 clip in the set while the Golden Eagles were held to a .083 mark.

Basey eclipsed her career mark with six kills in the set, while Corrujedo, Willis and Becca Latham tallied two apiece.

ORU took advantage of a few Pioneer miscues for an early 4-0 lead, but the home team slowly gained steam and took over the lead at 12-11, eventually fighting off a few Golden Eagle ties en route to a 25-18 final.

Set Two:

Defense kept the pace up for DU, holding Oral Roberts to a .026 swing percentage, while opening the flood gates with a .385 rate.

Principato paced the offense with four kills, followed by Willis with three and Latham and Corrujedo with two.

Denver turned the tables on the visitors in the second set, stringing together a 4-0 run to start the frame and following up with a 7-1 midway through for an 11-4 lead. DU kept all the momentum to build a 20-9 lead and cruised to a 25-13 final.

Set Three:

The Pioneers capped the sweep hitting only .133 in the stanza but used four team blocks and 14 digs to keep ORU to a .054 hitting percentage.

Principato led with three kills in the set, followed by two each from Corrujedo and Willis.

Oral Roberts came out of the gate with a 4-1 lead, but Denver was resilient and again chipped away at the lead to take over the lead at 8-7 and never looked back. DU built the cushion up to 20-14 and endured a late Golden Eagle push for a 25-20 final.

Up Next:

With a win, Denver is guaranteed a top-three seed in the Summit League Tournament after Fort Wayne was downed by North Dakota State in five sets earlier in the evening and IUPUI fell to South Dakota in three.

The Pioneers will wrap up the home portion of their 2016 schedule when they honor their seniors against Omaha on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. MT in Hamilton Gymnasium.
