Dec. 14, 2016 MLS Combine Release | Denver 2016 Video Features
NEW YORK - University of Denver men's soccer redshirt-senior right back Reagan Dunk (Dallas, Texas) and two-time captain and defensive midfielder Sam Hamilton (Evergreen, Colo.) have both been invited to the 2017 MLS Combine, set to take place in Los Angeles from January 8-12. Second-year head coach Jamie Franks has also been named a head coach for one of the four combine teams. The 2017 MLS SuperDraft will take place January 13 at the LA Convention Center.
A two-time All-American and a two-time MAC Hermann Semifinalist, Dunk earned 79 collegiate CAPS in his time in the Mile High City, scoring two goals and tallying 18 assists from his right back position. Dunk's 18 career assists is the third-highest tally in Denver's Division I history, a career total that includes eight in the 2015 campaign, good for 30th in the NCAA that season.
With his first order of business after being named the head coach ahead of the 2015 season, Franks made Hamilton captain of the Pioneers, a role he has excelled in on his way to helping lead the Pioneers to a 35-2-6 record over the last two seasons. Hamilton and Denver's senior class finished 55-19-12 over the last four seasons, the third best mark in the country during that span. DU's senior class also claimed four-straight Summit League Regular Season and Tournament titles, and matched the program record for wins in a season with 20 in 2016 (1988-NAIA). Hamilton finished with 83 collegiate appearances, becoming the most capped player in Denver's Division I history.
In just his second year on the Denver bench, Franks and the Pioneers accomplished something that hadn't been done around the country since 1977-78, finishing consecutive regular seasons unbeaten. Franks and his staff earned NSCAA West Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honors earlier this month, and picked up multiple wins in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. DU's No. 3 national ranking in the final NSCAA rankings is its highest in program history in the NSCAA Poll.
