NEW YORK - Freshman goalie Alex Ready (Lancaster, Pa.) has been named the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Ready made 13 saves in his collegiate debut, including seven in the opening 15 minutes. The first-year goaltender is the first freshman to start in goal on opening day since Jamie Faus got the nod as a freshman at Syracuse in 2011.
Denver is No. 2 in all three major polls that came out this morning (linked above).
Classmate Nate Marano (Tustin, Calif.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, netting four goals in his collegiate debut, the first time that has been done in a Pioneer uniform since 2008.
The [1/2] Pioneers defeated Air Force 10-9 at Cadet Lacrosse Stadium, stretching the program's winning-streak to 14 games, and scoring double-digit goals for the 22nd-straight game.
UP NEXT: [2/2] Denver will head to Georgia to take on [3/3] Duke for the second-consecutive year in the Cobb County Classic. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m. MT on Saturday, and Tyler Maun will be on the call for AM 1600 ESPN Denver.
