DU Off To Strong Start at Summit League Championships

Day One Results

Indianapolis, IND - The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving team got off to a strong start today on the first day of competition at the 2016 Summit League Championships. The DU women are currently in first place with 80 points, while the men are in third place with 88 points.

The women's 200 medley relay team of Morgan McCormick (Golden, Colo.), Amanda Sanders (Superior, Colo.), Heidi Bradley (Victoria, B.C.) and Zoe Huddleston (Rothschild, Wisc.) finished first overall with a time of 1:39.25. The men's relay team of Kyle Robrock (Savage, Minn.), Tim Cottam (Sydney, Australia), Ben Guillory (Meadows Place, Texas) and Ray Bornman (Mackay, Queensland) also won their race with a time of 1:27.16, setting a new Summit League Championship record.

The women also won the 800 free relay with a time of 7:13.24 thanks to a strong performance from the team of Johanna Roas (Munich, Germany), Lauren Moden (Parker, Colo.), Maddie Myers (Arvada, Colo.) and Morgan Mullenix (St. Louis, Mo.). Roas also set a new school and Summit League record in the 200 free with her lead leg time of 1:46.31.

The men's 800 free relay team of Bornman, Robrock, Luke Williams (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Dylan Bunch (Boulder City, Nev.) won their race with a time of 6:23.58, setting a new Summit League Championship record, a new school record and reaching NCAA B Standards.

"I'm pleased with our day one relays. We set two school and summit league records, which is a good jumping off point," head coach Brian Schrader said.

The Denver men's diving team also showed a strong performance in today's meet. Ryan Reed (Springdale, Ark.) finished 10th overall in the three meter diving event with a final score of 263.20, while teammate Jackson Martin (Boulder, Colo.) finished 16th with a final score of 186.00.

The DU swimming and diving team will continue competition at the Summit League Championships tomorrow at the IU Natatorium.
