Santa Barbara, Calif. - The 47th-ranked University of Denver men's tennis team fell to the No. 51 University of California Santa Barbara today in a close 4-3 match. The Pioneers now hold a 11-7 overall record.
DU received singles victories from Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.) and Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal). Craig defeated Nathan Eshmade of UCSB 6-2, 6-2, while Rocha beat Nicolas Moreno de Alboran 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
Denver recorded a 2-1 record in doubles play with victories coming from Craig/Alex Gasson (Alton, United Kingdom) and Zach Fryer (Centennial, Colo.)/Rocha. The No. 46-ranked duo of Craig/Gasson beat the No. 34 doubles pair of Eshmade/Miles Seemann of UCSB 7-5. Fryer and Rocha beat Morgan Mays/Andrew Riminton 7-6.
The Pioneers will travel to South Dakota next weekend to take on two Summit League opponents: Western Illinois University and South Dakota State University. DU will compete on Saturday and Sunday with both matches being played in Sioux Falls, S.D. and scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. MT.
