Aug. 1, 2016 DENVER -- Head coach Lindsay Kuhle announced Monday that former University of Arizona men's golfer Kolton Lapa has been named assistant coach.
Lapa comes to Denver from the University of Arizona, where he recently finished his collegiate playing career. He finished his senior campaign with a 74.81 stroke average and recorded four top-20 and two top-10 finishes.
"Kolton comes to DU with a wealth of playing experience at the highest level in college golf," Kuhle said. "I am very excited for Kolton to join our family and help continue to build a strong program both athletically and academically. Kolton has a passion for golf, playing, learning, teaching and coaching. He will help our program with player development and continue to recruit the best student-athletes in the world to come to our university. His excitement and passion for coaching is something I look for in an assistant and Kolton couldn't be a better fit for our program. I am pleased to add Kolton Lapa to our University of Denver women's golf program."
The Mesa, Ariz. native is a graduate of Red Mountain High School, where he helped guide his team to a 2010 state championship. In 2012, Lapa won the 2012 Tucson City Junior Championship and finished tied for third at the Arizona Stroke Play Championship.
"I am very humbled and excited about joining the Pioneer coaching staff," Lapa said. "The University of Denver women's golf team has always been a very powerful program and I am excited to be part of it. Coach Kuhle and I believe that this women's program will be able to do tremendous things going forward together."
Lapa was team captain during his final two seasons at the University of Arizona while also serving on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during his senior season. He played at the University of Nebraska and set the Huskers 54-hole scoring record for a freshman at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. Lapa was chosen to play in the PGA Tour Northern Trust Collegiate Challenge representing the Wildcats while partnering with PGA Tour Player Ricky Barnes.
