Aug. 14, 2016 DENVER - University of Denver gymnastics alumna Jessica Lopez placed No. 6 in the individual uneven bars final in Rio on Sunday with a final score of 15.333-less than six tenths from first place and only .233 off the podium.
Sunday's meet marked Lopez's first individual event final, doing so in her third Olympics representing Venezuela. She previously competed at the 2008 and 2012 Games.
On Thursday, Lopez finished No.7 overall in the all-around competition, the highest finish for a Venezuelan gymnast at the Olympics. She is also the first gymnast for Venezuela to qualify to an Olympics event final.
The 2017 DU Gymnastics team opens its home season on January 14 against Arizona State, Air Force and Texas Woman's. Season tickets are now on sale.
