DENVER - The University of Denver women's gymnastics team, presented by your Hometown Toyota Stores, moved up to No. 7 in the national rankings released by Road to Nationals on Monday. The Pioneers posted a 195.875 in Saturday's season opener to top Minnesota on the road.
The Pioneers' No. 7 ranking is the second-highest in program history, only behind 2003 and 2010 when the Pioneers held a No. 6 ranking.
As a team, DU is ranked in the top 11 nationally on all four events: No. 7 on vault (49.050), tied for No. 10 on bars (48.925), and No. 11 on both beam (48.950) and floor (48.950).
Three Pioneers are ranked in the top 25 nationally as individuals. Freshman Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) comes in tied for No. 6 in the all-around (39.500), tied for No. 4 on vault (9.925), tied for No. 6 on floor (9.900) and tied for No. 13 on beam (9.875).
Junior Nikole Addison (Fort Myers, Fla.) is ranked for the first time in her career, coming in tied for No. 22 in the all-around (39.150) and tied for No. 22 on floor (9.850).
Senior Julia Ross (Henderson, Nev.) also holds her first-ever national ranking this week, tied for No. 25 in the all-around (39.125).
The Road to Nationals rankings will be released Monday mornings throughout the season and are determined by average score for the first few weeks. Beginning in mid-February, rankings will be calculated by Regional Qualifying Score (RQS).
Denver hosts its home opener on Saturday, January 14, against Arizona State, Air Force and Texas Woman's at 6 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.
