DENVER -- The University of Denver women's basketball team came out hot and focused against Chadron State on Wednesday. The Pioneers blew right past the Eagles, 99-55 inside Hamilton Gymnasium.

DU improved to 2-2 on the season, while CSC fell to 2-4.

The Crimson and Gold tallied 90-plus points for the first time since Dec. 8 2014, a 107-66 victory over Air Force.

The team played without the services of Samantha Romanowski, who sat the contest due to an injury.

The squad shot 50 percent (35-for-70) from the field and went 48.4 percent (15-for-31) from behind the arc. Denver's 15 3s on the game are a season-record for the team.

Leading the way for the Pioneers was Briana Johnson who scored a career-high 21 points and went 80 percent (8-for-10) from the field.

Three other DU student athletes scored in double figures, including Madison Nelson with 19 points, Jordyn Alt with 12 and finally Jahla Osborne with 10.

On the night, Alt also recorded her first double-double on the year after grabbing 10 rebounds.

Other statistical leaders include Johnson with six assists and Nelson who forced four steals.

The Crimson and Gold quickly took the lead 8-0 with a lay-in from Jasmine Jeffcoat and a pair of 3s from Nelson and Alt.

Another 3 from Nelson put Denver on a 15-4 run, halfway through the first quarter.

Through the end of the first, the Pioneers built a 20-8 lead on shooting 44.4 percent (8-for-18) from the field.

Chadron State started the second hot, igniting a 6-0 run, cutting the Pioneer lead to only six.

However, an Osborne jumper and a Claire Gritt 3 ended the Eagles run and put DU backup by 11.

CSC eventually cut the Denver lead to only eight, but an Osborne put back capped off a huge run for Denver and put them up by 20 at the break, 45-25.

Back-to-back 3s from Nelson and Gritt continued the hot streak for DU into the second half, a minute later Johnson joined the party with a trey of her own.

Three minutes into the third and an Alt jumper capped off a 13-0 run for the Pioneers in the second half.

CSC eventually cut the lead down to 22, 63-41 with a triple from Kalli Feddersen with three minutes to play in the third.

A buzzer-beating 3 from Carie Weinman ended the third, but the freshman added another to start the fourth and extend the margin to 29.

It was as close as the Eagles got the rest of the contest, as the Pioneers put the game out of reach in the fourth.

DU returns to action on Friday, as they take on Eastern Michigan as part of the LMU Thanksgiving Classic in California. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. MT.
