Feb. 3, 2017

NORMAN, Okla. - Freshman Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.) and senior Julia Ross (Henderson, Nev.) finished second and third in the all-around with scores of 39.400 and 39.350, respectively, on Friday night as the No. 8-ranked University of Denver women's gymnastics team visited Big 12 opponent No. 1 Oklahoma.

Karr also placed third overall on floor as DU finished second with a 194.500, behind Oklahoma (197.675) but ahead of No. 20 Nebraska (194.450) and Texas Woman's (193.050).

Denver started the meet on bars. For the second straight meet, Ross had the team's highest score with a 9.850, which was followed closely by Karr's 9.825. Sophomore Diana Chesnok (Charlotte, N.C.), who was returning from an injury, made her season debut and added a 9.775. Junior Nikole Addison (Fort Myers, Fla.) added a 9.675.

The Pioneers moved to beam for the second rotation and totaled a 49.125, matching the second-best team performance on the event this season. Four of DU's scores were 9.800 or higher, beginning with a 9.825 from freshman Courtney Loper (West Des Moines, Iowa), which matches her personal best. Sophomore Kaitlyn Schou (Orlando, Fla.) also tallied a 9.825. Ross posted a 9.850, and Karr rounded out the rotation with a team-high 9.875.

DU went 49.000 on floor with five-up, five-count for the fifth straight meet. Karr again led the team with a 9.875-just .025 off her career high-which placed her third overall on the event. Addison had DU's next best score on floor with a 9.850, and Schou added a 9.800. Ross and Loper topped off Denver's line up with a 9.775 and 9.725, respectively.

Again competing only five student-athletes, Denver finished the meet on vault. Schou started the rotation with a 9.725 while Addison followed with a 9.800. Karr and Ross added two more scores of at least a 9.800: Karr with a 9.825 and Ross a 9.875. Ross' score matches her season high.

Denver will compete again this weekend, visiting Southern Utah for a dual meet on Monday. The Pioneers return home on Saturday, February 11, against Boise State. Single-meet tickets are just $9-and $6 for groups of 20 or more-and can be purchased online, at the Ritchie Center Box Office or by calling 303-871-2336.
