ANCHORAGE
, Alaska ââ'¬" The University of Denver ski team resumed competition at the Seawolf Invitational Tuesday afternoon at Kincaid Park in Anchorage with the Freestyle Sprint.

Denver finished the day in second place with 434 total points, which includes results from the Alpine portion of competition last week.

"It has been really positive to get a change of pace up here in Alaska with the first sea level races of the season and the first skate sprint as well", said head Nordic coach Dave Stewart. "It often takes us a few races to find the higher speed down here at sea level, but I was pleased with the performances overall today."

The men's team had a strong showing, with Dag Frode Trolleboe placing first overall with 40 points. Moritz Madlener finished fifth on the day with 29 points.

"Dag Frode always has awesome speed and he took full advantage of the sprint race today, winning both the prelim and the RMISA final for the first college win of his career. A well-deserved win and fun to have him show the form we see so often in training. Moritz was on track to join Dag Frode on the podium but was unlucky to have a competitor collide with him on his semi-final and move him from first to last in an instant. He almost passed the field at the end, but needed a few more meters to come all the way back", added Stewart.

For the women, Jasmi Joensuu was the only top-10 finisher on the day, coming in at fifth gathering 29 points.

"On the ladies side it was good to see all of our women qualify for the heats. Jasmi has been sprinting very well this year and had her best performance of the year today with a fourth, making it to the final but also falling victim to a competitor falling into her during the race. Aja, Linn and Sylvia each fought hard in their quarterfinals and are happy to get their first race here in Alaska under their belts. Congrats to women's race winner Myrete Myrseth of Utah for her convincing win today."

Races will resume Wednesday in Alaska with the Classic Mixed Gender Relay (4x5K) in Girdwood.

"Tomorrow will be the first RMISA relay in decades and all the teams are fired up to go head to head in this team format", said Stewart. "The relay will also be held at a new FIS venue at Girdwood, so it will be exciting to race on trails that are new to everyone."

Live results for Wednesday's race will be available at www.ussalivetiming.com.
