DENVER DOWNS IUPUI 7-0

April 15, 2017

The DU men's tennis team improved to 3-0 in Summit League play on Saturday, downing the IUPUI Jaguars by a score of 7-0 at Indianapolis' West Indy Racquet Club. Denver is now 10-11 on the season overall.

"This win gives us at least a share of the regular season Summit League title," Denver head coach Ricardo Rubio said following Saturday's victory. "Our team did great job today of focusing on the task at hand and getting the job done. It was a total group effort. Seeing Iggy Castelino win his first-ever dual match was awesome; he was first off the court and gave us a big boost early on with his energy."

"Now we have to get ready for our last two home regular season matches this coming Friday and Saturday. Our upperclassmen, particularly our three seniors, have been playing much better as of late we are on track to peak at the right time."

The Pios captured the doubles point on Saturday courtesy of victories by Team Rocha/Ruder-Hook (6-2) and Team Fernandez Del Valle/Lovera (also 6-2). All six of DU's singles wins then came in straight sets:

Rocha def. Newis 6-0, 6-3

Gasson def. Calero 6-1, 6-0

Ruder-Hook def. Beasley 6-0, 6-4

Huynh def. Nallet 7-5, 6-1

Lovera def. Leutzwacher 6-1, 7-5

Castelino def. Moe 6-2, 6-0

"It was definitely a great team effort out there today," senior Pio Diogo Rocha said following Denver's lopsided win. "It's always good to win against one of our Summit League rivals before the conference tournament. We're excited to play our last two regular season matches at home and we hope to have a lot of fans come out and support us"

Denver will take on New Mexico on Friday, Apr. 21 (12pm) and Omaha on Saturday, Apr. 22 (2pm) in its final two matches of the regular season. Both matches will be staged at Colorado Athletic Club-Monaco (DIRECTIONS).
