The DU men's tennis team locked up the top seed in the Summit League's Championship Tournament (Apr. 28-29 in Indianapolis) on Saturday afternoon, defeating the UNO Mavericks by a score of 7-0 at CAC-Monaco. Denver finishes its regular season schedule with a record of 11-12, going 4-0 in Summit League play to finish with a perfect in-league record for the fourth consecutive year.
"We've had some ups and downs this year but finishing undefeated in our league again is a good boost for us as we head into the post-season," Denver head coach Ricardo Rubio said following Saturday's victory. "We seem to play better outdoors, which was how today's match was played, so hopefully moving indoors next weekend won't affect us and we can come away with another Summit League playoff title."
Prior to Saturday's match, DU's three graduating student-athletes (Diogo Rocha, Yannik James & Alex Gasson) were recognized for their collective contribution to the program. All three seniors went on to capture singles victories, as did underclassmen Sean Huynh, Ignatius Castelino and Pedro Fernandez Del Valle. Denver also took the doubles point thanks to wins from No. 60 Team Gasson/James and Team Lovera/Fernandez Del Valle. Click HERE for complete results from Saturday's match.
