NORFOLK, Va. (Denver/CSCAA) - The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs both earned College Swimming and Diving Coaches' Association Scholar All-America Team honors, the CSCAA announced on Wednesday.
Denver had two of a 95-year record 720 programs representing 443 institutions across all divisions that received the team award this week, an honor given to teams with a 3.0 GPA during the spring semester/quarter. The Pioneers' men's program finished with the 26th-best grade point average in Division I at 3.30, while the women were 61st out of the 173 DI women's programs to receive the award with a 3.49.
On Wednesday, the CSCAA also recognized individuals that had a 3.5 grade point average and competed in the 2017 NCAA Championships with the organization's Scholar All-America individual honors.
Freshman Sid Farber (Portland, Ore.), junior Anton Loncar (Hillsboro, Ore.) and redshirt-seniors Kyle Robrock (Savage, Minn.) and Andrew Torres (Arvada, Colo.) earned Scholar All-America honors on the men's side, while sophomore Bailey Andison (Smiths Falls, Ontario), juniors Heidi Bradley (Victoria, B.C.) and Maddie Myers (Arvada, Colo.) and senior Amanda Sanders (Superior, Colo.) brought the Pioneers' total to eight, up two student-athletes from a year ago.
In addition, individuals could earn Scholar All-America Honorable Mention if they achieved a 3.5 grade point average and achieved a B-standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet.
For the Pioneers, seniors Scott Bergstrom (White Salmon, Wash.), Travis Greenwald (Wilton, Iowa) and Ben Severino (Des Moines, Iowa) earned honorable mention honors for the men, while sophomores Lauren Moden (Parker, Colo.) and Annelyse Tullier (Dallas, Texas) and freshman Josie Valette (Boulder, Colo.) rounded out the Pioneers' award winners on Wednesday.
In 2016-17, the CSCAA recognized 997 First Team selections across all Divisions, while handing out an additional 954 honorable mention honors.
