DENVER MEN FINISH FIFTH IN CAPITAL ONE CUP STANDINGS

July 10, 2017

For the second time in three years, the University of Denver men's athletic programs earned a Top 5 finish in the race for the Capital One Cup in 2016-17, as recently announced by Capital One (NYSE: COF), an official NCAA® Corporate Champion. The Ohio State University men's athletics program and the Stanford University women's athletics program finished first in the final standings.

Several DU programs enjoyed standout campaigns in 2016-17, with men's hockey, lacrosse and soccer all making the Final Four and hockey capturing its eighth national title to tie UND for second-place all-time. The Pioneers were recently awarded the Learfield Sports DI-AAA Directors' Cup for the fifth straight year and for the ninth time in the last 10 years.

Currently in its seventh year, the Capital One Cup recognizes NCAA Division I athletics programs for their cumulative on-field performance across multiple men's and women's sports. Since 2011, Capital One has contributed $2.8 million in student-athlete scholarships. Each year, programs earn points based on its teams' top-10 finishes in NCAA Division I championships and in final official coaches' polls across 21 women's and 20 men's sports as they compete to win the Capital One Cup trophy and a combined $400,000 in scholarships for student-athletes.
