Brown Wins Second Straight All-Around Title

BOISE, Idaho -- University of Denver freshman Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.) won the all-around title for the second consecutive meet, doing so this time on the road with a 39.325 on Friday at Boise State. She took the win in DU's home opener on January 14 as well.

In total, DU captured four of the five individual titles, splitting them between Brown, senior Nikole Addison (Fort Myers, Fla.) and sophomore Maddie Karr (Stillwater, Minn.).

DU began the meet on bars led by Karr's 9.900, which was the top mark overall in the meet. Brown had the Pioneers' next highest mark with a 9.850, tying her for third overall. Junior Claire Kern (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman Mia Sundstrom (Boulder, Colo.) scored matching 9.775s. Junior Diana Chesnok (Charlotte, N.C.) finished strong after a fall to earn a 9.350. Senior Leah Lomonte (Katy, Texas) also made her season debut during the rotation.

Denver rebounded in the third rotation with six hit beam routines and finished with three gymnasts earning places on the podium. Sundstrom topped the Pioneers' line-up with a 9.850 to place second overall. Karr and junior Kaitlyn Schou (Orlando, Fla.) were close behind with 9.825s, which tied them for third. Addison earned a 9.775, and Brown and Chesnok had matching 9.700s.

DU competed with only five student-athletes on floor for the second straight week and swept the event podium. Brown had Denver's top score with a 9.900, which matches her personal best. Schou and Karr again earned matching scores, this time with 9.850s for their floor routines, earning them a tie for second.

The Pioneers wrapped up the meet also competing five-up, five-count on vault. Addison took home the event title with her new career-high 9.900. Brown finished second overall with a 9.875. Sundstrom added a 9.825 while Chesnok went 9.800.

Denver's three all-arounders each finished in the top four with Brown in first (39.325), Karr in third (39.075) and Sundstrom in fourth (38.925).

Denver finished second overall in the meet with a 195.050. Boise State finished first with a 195.850 while UIC (192.375) and Seattle Pacific (186.875) finished out the quad meet in third and fourth, respectively.

Denver returns home next weekend to begin a three-meet home stand, beginning with Pink Night against Utah State on Saturday, January 27, in Hamilton Gymnasium.
