DENVER -

Jaakko Heikkinen has been named National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Rookie of the Month for December, the NCHC announced on Wednesday.

Heikkinen finished the month with seven (7) points (3-4-7), 10 shots and a +1 rating through eight (8) games. The Helsinki, Finland native finished the month second in scoring among NCAA freshmen and led all freshmen with two (2) power-play goals and four (4) power-play points.

In his first collegiate season, Heikkinen has registered 10 points (6-4-10), 26 shots and a -2 rating through 20 games.

The league honor marks the fifth for the Pioneers and first for Heikkinen this season.

The University of Denver is holding an alumni giving challenge for the 2017-2018 season in an effort to increase student-athlete alumni participation in the Denver Athletics Annual Fund. The sport with the highest percentage of alumni participation will receive an additional $10,000 of support through the generosity of an anonymous donor.
