Pioneers Extend Win Streak to 18 Matches

DENVER – The University of Denver women's volleyball team took down North Dakota State for its 11th sweep of the season, defeating the Bison by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-13. The Pioneers improved to 20-1 (9-0 Summit League) on the year.

With the victory, the Crimson and Gold extended their streak to 18 matches, the longest winning streak in program history.

We did a great job on the defense side today," said head coach Tom Hogan. "The players executed the game plan, and they were very sharp with their eye-work. We improved throughout the match in several areas, and will need to come into Sunday's match against North Dakota with the mindset that we ended with in the third set."

Pioneer Performers:
Senior Becca Latham stepped up to help DU to its 20th victory, tallying 11 kills (.269 hitting percentage) and one block. The 6-foot-4 outside hitter has seen action in all 78 sets this season, and leads the team with 255 kills overall.

Katarina Marinkovic and Lydia Bartalo also added to Denver's 42 total kills, notching nine (Marinkovic) and eight (Bartalo) respectively.

Ellie Anderson continues to lead the squad in assists, totaling 20 against the Bison. In Friday night's match she surpassed 1,000 career assists, and will likely crack into the DU top-10 career records, needing only 289 more to surpass Julia Cawthra (2010-11) who sits at No. 10 with 1,307.

Big Blocks:
Denver totaled 10 blocks against NDSU, knocking off four in set one alone. Emma Willis proved her capabilities as a middle blocker, with five blocks this match, one solo.

Let's Talk Numbers:
DU accumulated 42 kills, 38 assists, three aces, 53 digs, 10 blocks and a .193 hitting percentage against the Bison. Despite this being the Pioneers' second-lowest hitting percentage this year, they still held North Dakota State to only a -.052 percentage, its worst this season.
