DENVER— The University of Denver women's volleyball team prepares for another weekend of Summit League competition, heading to Sioux Fall, S.D. on Friday, Oct. 26 (6 p.m. MT) to face South Dakota State, then returning home to Hamilton Gymnasium on Sunday, Oct. 28 (2 p.m. MT) to host Omaha.
The Pioneers look to improve on a 20-1 (9-0 Summit League) record and remain atop the conference standings.
Denver's 20-1 mark is the best record seen in program history, and is due to the current 18-game winning streak. The Crimson and Gold are averaging a league-leading 14.01 kills per set on the season, 13.05 assists, 2.29 blocks and a .272 hitting percentage. DU also ranks second in the NCAA for aces per set (2.06) and fifth in total aces (161).
Sophomore
Lydia Bartalo leads the league with 0.55 aces per set, followed by teammate
Andrea Eddy with 0.35.
South Dakota State sits at No. 8 in the Summit League standings, going 1-8 in league play and 4-18 overall in 2018. The Jackrabbits have lost their last two matches, and average 11.39 kills per set, 10.66 assists, 2.04 blocks and 13.92 digs on the year. Senior Payton Richardson leads the league with 1.27 blocks per set, totaling 84 blocks on the year.
Omaha enters the weekend with a 14-8 (8-2) mark, good at third overall in the league. The Mavericks have notched 1,130 kills this season (third in the Summit) with Isabella Sade at the helm, having tallied 239 kills this year. Freshman Sydney Case leads the team with 938 assists this season, ranking 17th in the NCAA.
The Pioneers took down Omaha back on Oct. 16 in a five-set thriller in its gym, handing the Mavericks their first loss in league play on the season.
