[RV] Denver Hosts South Dakota in Battle of Summit League's Top Two Teams

DENVER— Fresh off a win at home on Sunday, the [RV] University of Denver women's volleyball team prepares to host South Dakota, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 in a match-up of the top two teams in the Summit League standings. The Pioneers remain atop the league standings at 11-0 (22-1 overall) this season, while the Coyotes enter Tuesday night at 10-2 (16-8), a game ahead of Omaha for second place. 

The Crimson and Gold look to win their 21st consecutive match on Tuesday night, having not dropped a contest since Aug. 25 against No. 19 Utah. DU averages 13.94 kills per set, 12.99 assists, 13.70 digs, 2.31 digs and 2.17 aces. Senior Becca Latham leads the Denver offense with 270 kills on the year, while sophomore Macy Carrabine holds down the defense, totaling 223 digs on the year.

Denver checks in at No. 3 in the NCAA with 182 service aces this season, and No. 1 in the nation with 2.17 aces per set. Lydia Bartalo ranks No. 4 with 52 aces on the year, recently becoming the Denver single-season record holder for service aces, surpassing Lisa Hunter who tallied 48 in the 2003 season. The Pioneers also check in at No. 5 in opponent hitting percentage (.145) and No. 14 in hitting percentage (.273). 

The Coyotes are on a five-match win streak, averaging 13.5 kills per set, 12.5 assists, 1.8 blocks and 18.2 digs. Hayley Dotseth (4.09 kills per set), Anne Rasumussen (5.53 digs per set) and Taylor Wilson (.372 hitting percentage) lead the league in the respective categories.

The Pioneers took on the Coyotes back on Oct. 5, defeating them in three sets. That match Carrabine became the Denver record holder for digs in a three-set contest (26).

Tuesday's match will be "Halloween themed", and fans are welcome to dress up in a costume, however per university policy no masks are permitted. Children under the age of 12 wearing a costume will receive free admission.
